Legal Administrative Assistant for full-time position providing support to our busy downtown Litigation and Corporate Team.  This position requires an applicant that is experienced in both civil litigation and corporate commercial law.  The applicant should have 3+ years’ experience and a legal secretarial Community College Diploma or equivalent.  Familiarity with Commercial Litigation is not essential but it is an asset.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Co-ordinating and monitoring administrative functions to ensure work is completed accurately and within established time frames
  • Managing files through all stages of the legal process, including opening and closing files
  • General administrative duties including entering timesheets and preparing accounts
  • Maintaining calendar and bring forwards
  • Conduct corporate searches, Personal Property Security Act registrations
  • Preparing and filing Articles of Incorporation and Articles of Amendment
  • Maintaining corporate records
  • Preparing and typing court documents, pleadings and trial briefs
  • Drafting Affidavits of Documents
  • Scheduling meetings, examinations and other proceedings

Experience/Skills

  • Knowledge of general corporate commercial matters
  • Civil Litigation skills and experience
  • Familiarity with estate administration and real estate matters
  • Knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and court practice and procedures at various levels
  • Excellent grammar, spelling and proofreading skills
  • Superior analytical, organizational and prioritization abilities
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong technical skills and proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • PC Law experience preferred
  • Familiarity with Fast Company is an asset
  • A team player who is resourceful, motivated and works well under pressure
  • Able to take initiative, set priorities and multitask
  • Flexibility and adaptability are essential

Legal Administrative Assistant for full-time position providing support to our busy downtown Insurance & Commercial Litigation Team.  The applicant should have 4+ years’ experience as a Litigation Legal Assistant/clerk and a legal secretarial Community College Diploma or equivalent.  Experience in Insurance Defence is a must. Familiarity with Commercial Litigation Practice is an asset.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Co-ordinating and monitoring administrative functions to ensure work is completed accurately and within established time frames
  • Managing files through all stages of the legal process, including opening and closing files, preparing undertakings list, following-up on productions and undertakings
  • General administrative duties including entering timesheets and preparing accounts
  • Maintaining calendar and bring forwards
  • Scheduling medical legal examinations, hearings, examinations for discovery and other court proceedings
  • Preparing and typing court documents and pleadings
  • Drafting Affidavits of Documents
  • Preparing and typing client correspondence and reports
  • Preparation of motion records
  • Trial and hearing preparation including assembling of briefs, witness lists & charts, preparation of trial briefs and drafting Notices of Intention and Requests to Admit

Experience/Skills

  • Knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and court practice and procedures

Currently we are welcoming applications from an entrepreneurial mid-level commercial litigation counsel having completed at least four years in practice with strong academic achievements at a law school in Ontario; research and drafting skills; a command of language; and the ability to construct and present persuasive arguments. Experience, or demonstrable interest and training in IT, IP (especially copyright and trademark), internet and technology/cyber security, real estate and estates practice areas, including acting for those seeking or responding to injunctions, and other urgent equitable remedies, would be an asset.

This opportunity will appeal to entrepreneurial counsel with a marketing plan who are self-starters and would like to develop a practice in a cordial and professional boutique litigation environment with disciplined overhead constraints.

Applicants will be preferred who also can demonstrate an aptitude for marketing their legal services. Persuasive real-world experience in the following areas would be beneficial: some history of direct retention by clients for legal services and involvement in the new client intake process, including drafting retainer agreements; drafting marketing or advertising material for legal services, including law firm website content; and regularly blogging and / or writing on matters of interest to potential clients of legal services. Although not prerequisites, this opportunity may appeal to Applicants with an undergraduate business degree or who have had business experience—and know how to meet a deadline. Compensation is performance based on a share of billed and recovered fees.
